If you use the keyboard accelerators to activate a tool, you can stay
focused on the image window. If you hover your mouse over the tool button,
the tooltip will show at the far right the accelerator key used to activate
that tool. For example, 'M' will activate the "Move" tool.
The switching back and forth is not an issue with GIMP; it is the window
manager that is changing the focus, and is outside of GIMP's control.
