Installing resysthesizer

billlee
I have Windows 10. I followed a tutorial, but the heal filter doesn't work.
I get the error message:
Error while executing script-fu-smart-remove:

Error: ( : 1) eval: unbound variable: plug-in-resynthesizer
 I put resynth.exe in c:/users/ed/Gimp2.8/plugins,
and I put: resynth_pattern_fill.scm, smart-enlarge.scm, and smart-emove.scm in
the scripts folder:
c:/users/ed/gimp2,8/scripts

This is not a standard directory for GIMP plug-ins - are you sure that
this is one that you have set up on your system, and do you know how to
verify that in GIMP's preferences?

No I don't know anything yet, i just installed Gimp and I was following
directions in a tutorial. So if that isn't the right directory (which it isn't)
where should I put it? That is what I need help with.

Scripts go in  C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\scripts

Plugins go in C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins

I hope the old tutorial you looked at was not mine from 2012.

The heal selection script - maybe called smart-remove.scm - is not the best
version to use. There is a more up-to-date python plugin.

Get a good version from

http://www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwti30g3/resynth_win_32_64.zip

Have a look at this video about installation in Windows 10.

https://youtu.be/RJlNmA4h6ZI  3 minutes.

Remember to remove the old files first.

An alternative is a different, complete installation of GIMP. The windows
package from Partha.com contains the plugins already installed.

Thanks Rich I appreciate the help. I went to Parta.com, but the link was, I
think maybe source code. I am not a power user or anything. I just can't afford
Photoshop. could you post a link to the correct version of Gimp that is an
installation package for Windows?

No, your screenshot is of pixls.us and a portable linux 'appimage' nothing to do
with Windows.

You need this site  www.partha.com

and this installer.  64 bit windows only, If you use 32 bit Windows, look at the
video link I posted.

http://www.partha.com/downloads/Gimp-2.8.14-64bit.exe

A snag.

Just had a closer look at Partha's Gimp 2.8.14 installation. It does have
resynthesizer installed, lots of extra plugins but **no** 'heal selection' So
either add that plugin yourself or use the regular Gimp 2.8.18 installation from
www.gimp.org and back to installing from that zip file I referenced.

Re: Installing resysthesizer

Partha Bagchi-2
Rich,

Heal selection is the python script that uses resynthesizer.  I thought I
had included it. :(

To the OP, if you are having difficulties with my builds (which comes with
resynthesizer pre-installed as Rich pointed out), simply contact me at my
email posted on my website.

Thanks,
Partha

First Windows Gimp 2.10.2 was buggy. Update to the latest (Gimp 2.10.4 as of
writing) from www.gimp.org

*** resynthesizer/heal selection ***

You do not want an earlier version. It does not work.

Download this:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwti30g3/resynth_win_32_64.zip

Take the 2 files resynthesizer.exe and resynthesizer-gui.exe from the ** win64
** folder

and usually the python plugin: plugin-heal-selection.py

Put those 3 files in your Gimp profile
C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins

resynthesizer is found in Filters -> Map -> Resynthesize

heal selection in Filters -> Enhance -> Heal Selection

==========

Help requested in installing resynthesizer

1) download zip file from
www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwti30g3/resynth_win_32_64.zip
2) Take the 2 files resynthesizer.exe and resynthesizer-gui.exe from the **
win64 ** folder
3) ????????????? me thinks lost at this point

what  should be done with "plugin-heal-selection.py",  and
"resynthesizer-gui.exe"
do two programs create 3 files ?
where is profile located

Addition comment regarding windows install, I always like the option of a
desktop short cut/link/icon
this was not a tedious problem, but I felt that it could be incorperated in
window-install

Difficult to make it more obvious. Windows will open the zip file as a folder,
then it is just click-n-drag.

The two 64 bit resynth files, screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/5H2a0bu.jpg

And as many of the python plugins as you want: https://i.imgur.com/1kliHZJ.jpg

>where is profile located

They go in your Gimp profile
C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins This is a hidden folder.

You do not know where that is? see:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028316/windows-view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-10

Desktop shortcut: It is incorporated. You should have installed Gimp using the
customize option, but then how many Windows users do that.
